Statin users can take heart!

Press Release (02/04/05). Cholesterol reducing drugs called Statins have recently become available over the counter. While there is good evidence that they reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes the irony is that these same drugs are also associated with heart failure.

According to long time researcher Dr Peter Langsjoen of East Texas Medical Centre and Trinity Mother Frances Hospital, the cause is muscle weakness due to the depletion of the vital compound called Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) which is essential for supplying energy to cells – particularly heart muscle.

As we get older, the body makes less CoQ10 but what’s left can be dramatically depleted by Statins because they block not only the manufacture of cholesterol but CoQ10 too.

Statins are prescribed aggressively and very widely now says Dr Langsjoen. “If they are used to reduce cholesterol by 40-50% they reduce CoQ10 by the same amount.

The solution is simple. Supplement with the appropriate amount of CoQ10. In Canada, every packet of Statins carries a warning that they may deplete CoQ10.

Dr Peter Langsjoen says “One product suitable for Statin users is Pharma Nord Bio Quinone Gold – because they are designed especially to deliver the optimum levels of CoQ10 to counteract Statin induced CoQ10 depletions.
Pharma Nord Bio Quinone Gold contains 100mg of CoQ10 dissolved in a unique patented soya oil formulation in a soft gelatine capsule giving more than three times the absorption of tablets or granules – and endorsed by American Scientist Professor Fred Krane – the discoverer of CoQ10 in 1957.
